Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie: Walpurgisnacht: Rising opens in Japan on August 28 in both standard and IMAX formats. The staff is asking fans to refrain from posting spoilers to social media, streaming services, and other platforms until September 12—giving the film a two-week head start before the internet breaks loose.

The spoiler embargo extends to an exclusive preview as well. Theaters running revival screenings of Puella Magi Madoka Magica The Movie Part 3: Rebellion are showing the first minutes of Walpurgisnacht: Rising to audiences. The staff wants fans who see that footage to keep it quiet until the same September 12 date.

Walpurgisnacht: Rising is the direct sequel to Rebellion, which premiered in 2013. The franchise announced the new film during its 10th anniversary event in April 2021, but the road to release has been long. The film was originally slated for winter 2024, then pushed to winter 2025, and most recently delayed to February 2026 due to production needs. The August 28 release finally marks its arrival.

The Madoka Magica franchise began with the original TV anime series in January 2011. Two compilation films adapted the series in 2012, followed by Rebellion three years later.
