HIDIVE revealed the debut window and first promotional video for Murciélago at Anime NYC over the weekend, confirming the manga's transition to television anime.

The series centers on Kuroko Koumori, a former death-row inmate selected through extraordinary legal measures to become a state-sanctioned executioner, and Hinako Tozakura, her watchdog partner and skilled driver. Together they pursue serial killers across an unconventional action-thriller premise that the studio describes as "wildly unconventional, addictively insane, and dangerously intoxicating."

Matsuo Asumi directs at Satelight and Staple Entertainment, with Takashi Naoya handling series composition and chief direction. Kiyoshi Tateishi designed the characters, while Masanori Akita and Yūichi Tsuchiya provide the score.

Murciélago will stream exclusively on HIDIVE in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, and New Zealand. The manga, written by Kana Yoshimura, began serialization in Square Enix's Young Gangan magazine in 2013 and has circulated 2.3 million copies worldwide. Yen Press is publishing the English translation, with volume 27 arriving September 22.

The adaptation comes as the original manga continues—volume 29 launched in Japan on July 24. A spinoff series, Murciélago Byproduct Araña, also exists in Square Enix's Manga UP! app, though that story concluded in June 2020 and focused on character Reiko Kuchiba.

With nearly thirteen years of source material to draw from, the anime has plenty of story to work with. The January 2027 premiere puts it squarely in the winter season, a traditionally competitive window for new releases.
