Niina Hanamiya has joined the cast of The Elusive Samurai's second season in the role of Mima, the production announced on Friday. The new season kicked off on July 17, airing late-night on Fuji TV as part of the Noitamina programming block, with simultaneous broadcasts on AT-X. Crunchyroll is streaming the season as episodes release.

Yuta Yamazaki returns to direct season 2 at CloverWorks, alongside character designer and new chief animation director Yasushi Nishiya. The creative team includes animation director Shinnosuke Ōta and composers GEMBI and Akiyuki Tateyama. Kento Nakajima performs the opening theme "Onigoto," while Bocchiboromaru handles the ending theme "Romantic ga Hoshii nara" (If You Wish for Romance) with three guest vocalists from idol group Hinatazaka46.

Based on Yūsei Matsui's manga, The Elusive Samurai follows Tokiyuki, a young heir who escapes after his family is massacred by the traitor Ashikaga Takauji. Aided by loyal retainers including the clairvoyant Suwa Yorishige, Tokiyuki seeks safety while Yorishige predicts he will one day rule Japan. Viz Media publishes the manga in English, and both Viz and MANGA Plus release new chapters digitally as they debut in Japan.

The series debuted in July 2024, also on Crunchyroll, which offers an English dub alongside the original Japanese audio. Matsui's manga, which launched in Weekly Shonen Jump in January 2021 and concluded in February 2026, won the 69th Shogakukan Manga Awards in 2024.

With an established fanbase from season one and a returning creative team, season 2 continues the period action-adventure that earned the manga recognition. The involvement of Hinatazaka46 members on the ending theme extends the anime's cultural reach, blending traditional historical storytelling with contemporary J-pop appeal.
