Feel the Moment: Why Real Life Beats Social Media

“What’s beautiful about the ’80s... you can slip, you can fall, you can lose, you can fail. You can mess up. And nobody would take a picture of it, or a video of it, and put it up on the internet and try to destroy your life.

So to the younger generation, it’s just a piece of advice. I’m ’bout to tell you why: ’cause perfection doesn’t exist, no matter how you filter a photo or how you edit it. In life, you’re supposed to slip, you’re supposed to fall, you’re supposed to fail, you’re supposed to lose, you’re supposed to mess up. It’s called living.

They’re called mistakes. And by the way, you don’t make mistakes; mistakes make you.

So to the kids out there tonight, I ain’t got nothing against technology. I’m ’bout putting you up on game, giving you up—giving you advice, and telling you:

  • Utilize technology, don’t let it use you.
  • Respect time; time will respect you.
  • Live life; don’t let life live you.

And forget about followers and likes. Be leaders and give love. That’s how you make a difference. That’s how you make a change. That’s how you make impact.

I take this time, why? ’Cause I want y’all to feel this moment.”

I 100% agree with him. I want everyone who comes to our events, dance classes, or performances to feel good about themselves and just feel the moment.

The people on social media are not real. They might never see you in reality, they don’t know who you are, and they don’t love you for who you truly are. Where you are right now is what’s real. The people around you right now are the ones who care about you and love you just the way you are.

Don’t get fooled by negative comments on social media. We are living in this moment; they are not. Let’s keep practicing and learning from our mistakes while we have a community that supports us and lifts us up when we slip. I’m still learning, I will probably make mistakes again, and I will keep learning forever.

Who wants to join this movement?? Let’s catch that wave and ride it!
