YOASOBI is set to perform at BlizzCon 2026's inaugural esports halftime show during the Overwatch World Cup tournament, bringing their signature style to a global gaming audience.

The duo will debut 'Orion,' a collaboration track they created for Overwatch based on the in-game short story 'The Fall of a Sparrow.' Set in Tokyo, the song weaves together the interconnected memories and relationships of three characters—Kiriko, Genji, and Hanzo—told through Kiriko's perspective. The track became the centerpiece of a larger collaboration that launched last July, spawning an animated music video, legendary character skins, and other in-game content.

In discussing their creative process, YOASOBI explained that composing for games required a different mindset than writing anime theme songs. Rather than following a linear narrative, they focused on energizing active gameplay and accelerating player engagement. Ayase brought more pop and fun elements to the production, while vocalist ikura deepened her delivery to create stronger emotional connection to the three characters.

The production itself blends cultural elements intentionally. YOASOBI incorporated the koto, a traditional Japanese string instrument, to match Overwatch's cyberpunk vision of Tokyo with a near-futuristic aesthetic. This fusion of J-pop with the game's visual identity reflects the duo's broader philosophy: presenting their music authentically rather than diluting it with Western elements for international audiences.

YOASOBI emphasized that J-pop's strength lies in its fluid genre boundaries, allowing seamless collaboration with games, manga, and anime. They described the Overwatch partnership as a significant creative milestone, one that introduced them to new sonic possibilities.
