13 Junji Ito Stories Coming to Live-Action TV Series This July
TV Tokyo is adapting 13 stories by horror manga legend Junji Ito into a live-action omnibus series premiering July 3. The Strange -Ito Junji no Yoru mo Nemurenu KimyΕ na Hanashi- will feature classics like 'Lovesickness' and 'The Rib Woman' with K-pop group IVE performing the opening theme.

TV Tokyo is bringing Junji Ito's horror catalog to live-action television with a new omnibus series launching this summer.
The Strange -Ito Junji no Yoru mo Nemurenu KimyΕ na Hanashi- (Strange -Junji Ito's Strange Stories for Sleepless Nights) will premiere July 3 at 24:12 (effectively July 4 at 12:12 a.m.) on TV Tokyo's Drama 24 programming block, with a follow-up airing on BS TV Tokyo on July 12. The series adapts 13 of Ito's most unsettling tales, including "Lovesickness," "The Mansion of Phantom Pain," "The Rib Woman," "The Bully," "Face Thief," and "A Father's Love."
Directors Atsuhiro Yamada, YΕ«ta Shimotsu, and RyΕta KondΕ are helming the project, with scripts by Daisuke Hosaka (Sadako 3D 2) and TatsurΕ Inamoto (Trigun Stampede, Pluto). South Korean group IVE contributes the opening theme song "Jigsaw."
The title references the original name of the Asahi Shimbun's Nemuki+ magazine, where many of Ito's works first appeared. Most of the featured stories have been published in English translations, though "In Old Records" previously appeared only in the 2018 Junji Ito Collection anime.
This live-action adaptation arrives as Ito's horror work continues gaining international recognition. He was inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame in July 2025 and previously won multiple Eisner Awards. His manga has also inspired several anime adaptations, including the Netflix series Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre (2024) and the Uzumaki mini-series that premiered on Toonami in September 2024.
Beyond television, Through the Lens Entertainment and Fangoria Studios are developing films based on "The Mystery of the Haunted House" and "Bloodsucking Darkness."
For fans looking to experience Ito's work before the July premiere, Netflix remains the easiest entry point with Junji Ito Maniac, while the 2018 Collection anime is available through Crunchyroll and Funimation.
