Satoshi Kisaichi's Black Channel manga is making the jump to online publication. Starting May 17, new chapters will appear on Shogakukan's Weekly Coro Coro Comic online magazine instead of the print Monthly Coro Coro Comics, where the series has run since 2020.

The manga follows Black, a demon who arrives in the human world hunting for video content. Alongside his camera-wielding assistant Camera-chan, he aims to expose the hidden sides of human life, games, and hobbies. It's a premise that clearly lends itself to the kind of episodic storytelling that works well for both manga and anime formats.

This isn't Black Channel's first venture into different media. An anime adaptation already debuted on YouTube back in September 2020, and Shogakukan is now developing a television anime for the series as well. A spinoff short manga called Black Channel: Breaking The Wall also got its own YouTube anime adaptation in August 2022.

The move to a weekly online format suggests the publisher is betting on the series' continued popularity. Shogakukan just released the manga's 13th volume in December, with the 14th volume hitting shelves on April 28β€”right before the shift to weekly online chapters begins. This timing indicates the transition is planned as a fresh chapter for the franchise rather than a sign of trouble.

For fans, the change means more frequent chapter releases. Weekly publications typically allow for steadier story momentum compared to monthly schedules, and the online format removes any geographical barriers to access. Given that an anime TV adaptation is in the works, the increased publication pace could help build momentum heading into the show's eventual premiere.

The shift also reflects broader industry trends as manga publishers increasingly embrace digital platforms and hybrid publishing models. Black Channel's move positions it alongside other successful series that have found audiences through online and traditional channels simultaneously.
