Kingdom's 5th Live-Action Film Gets Title and July Release Date
The popular Kingdom franchise continues its live-action journey with the announcement of the fifth film's official title and release date. Kingdom: Tamashii no Kessen (which translates to "Kingdom: Battle of Souls") will hit theaters on July 17, 2024.
Kento Yamazaki returns to reprise his role as Shin, the ambitious warrior who dreams of becoming a great general. Yamazaki has been the face of the live-action Kingdom series since the first film launched in 2019, bringing the beloved manga character to life on the big screen.
For those new to the series, Kingdom is based on Yasuhisa Hara's historical manga that follows the Warring States period of ancient China. The story centers on Shin, an orphaned boy who joins the military with hopes of rising through the ranks during a time of political upheaval and constant warfare.
The live-action Kingdom films have been incredibly successful in Japan, with each installment building upon the epic scope and intense battle sequences that fans love. The series has managed to capture the grand scale of ancient Chinese warfare while maintaining the character-driven storytelling that makes the source material so compelling.
With this being the fifth film in the series, longtime fans can expect the story to continue exploring Shin's growth as both a warrior and leader. The subtitle "Tamashii no Kessen" suggests this installment will focus on a particularly significant battle that tests the characters' resolve and determination.
Mark your calendars for July 17 if you're ready to join Shin's latest adventure on his path to greatness.
