The Korea Cartoonists Association (KCA) is bringing webtoon creators together to address two pressing issues affecting the industry: cyberbullying and mental health. The second Webtoon Forum of 2026 takes place April 24 at Seoul's Dariso Theater, continuing the KCA's effort to tackle challenges facing content creators.

Online harassment has become increasingly prevalent in the webtoon space. Malicious comments, targeted criticism, and coordinated social media attacks are affecting creators' work and wellbeing. The forum aims to recognize these concerns as systemic industry problems rather than individual struggles.

The event features two sessions with established creators sharing their experiences. Webtoon artist Super Pink, known for The Chat of Joseon Dynasty, will present on cyberbullying and online harassment. In the second session, Raha Lee, creator of Nurse Sheena's Asylum Diary, will discuss mental health challenges specific to webtoon artists.

Beyond online harassment, the forum addresses the physical and mental toll of webtoon production. Long working hours, irregular schedules, and intense production pressure contribute to burnout among creatorsβ€”issues the KCA frames as broader industry concerns rather than personal failings.

This follows the KCA's first forum in March, which examined how generative AI is affecting webtoon creators' workflows, copyright protections, and legal rights. That discussion reflected growing anxiety in the creative community about AI tools and their impact on artistic livelihoods.

The webtoon industry has experienced significant growth globally, but creator welfare often takes a backseat to content output. By hosting these forums, the KCA is attempting to shift the conversation toward supporting artists and addressing the systemic pressures they face. As webtoons continue gaining international recognition through adaptations and streaming platforms, conversations about creator protection and mental health support become increasingly important for the industry's sustainability.
