The live-action adaptation of Blue Lock is filling out its roster. The film's official website revealed three new cast members on Friday, all portraying the elite strikers who make up Team V's ace trio.

Kōhei Higuchi, known for his roles in Avatarō Sentai Donbrothers and KoiFure, is playing Zantetsu Tsurugi. K, a member of the idol group &TEAM, takes on Seishiro Nagiβ€”marking his acting debut in a major film. Keito Tsuna, who appeared in KishiryΕ« Sentai Ryusoulger, rounds out the trio as Reo Mikage.

These announcements complete a significant portion of the ensemble cast. Already locked in are Fumiya Takahashi as protagonist Yoichi Isagi, Kaito Sakurai as Meguru Bachira, and Kyōhei Takahashi as Hyoma Chigiri, among others. Masataka Kubota plays the coaching role of Jinpachi Ego, the strategic mind behind the selection program.

Director YΕ«suke Taki helms the film, with Tetsuo Kamata penning the screenplay. CREDEUS (the studio behind the live-action Golden Kamuy film) is producing, and TOHO is handling distribution. The film opens August 7 in Japan.

Blue Lock follows Japan's post-World Cup 2018 crisis as the national football union initiates an intense program to develop the perfect striker. The story gathers 300 elite youth players for brutal competition, asking the question: who will emerge as the nation's "absolute Ace"?

The manga by Muneyuki Kaneshiro and Yūsuke Nomura launched in Weekly Shōnen Magazine in August 2018 and has already amassed 38 compiled volumes. It won the Best Shōnen Manga award at Kodansha's 45th annual Manga Awards in 2021. An anime adaptation aired for 24 episodes starting in October 2022, with both subtitled and English dub versions available on Crunchyroll. The manga is being released in English by Kodansha USA in both digital and print formats.

With Team V's core now cast, expectations are rising for how the live-action film will bring the high-stakes soccer action to the screen.
