The Love Live! franchise is stepping into theaters this spring with Bloom Garden Party, a 3D anime film centered on the Hasu no Sora Jōgakuin School Idol Club. The official trailer dropped Thursday, giving fans their first full look at the story.

According to the trailer, the film follows Maika Kinjo and Aoi Reisawa as they document the "Bloom Garden Party" eventβ€”which takes place on the final day before graduation for the school's 103rd class. It's a bittersweet premise that fits the Love Live! formula of celebrating both performance and personal growth.

The movie brings together a solid production team. Director Gō Kurosaki (known for Shikizakura) is helming the project at Sublimation, with Fumiaki Maruto handling the script. Character designer Haruko Iizuka is back after working on the franchise's smartphone game adaptation. The music is being composed by Yoshiaki Fujisawa (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation), with Lantis handling production.

The film features the full roster of school idols from the Hasu no Sora group, including Kaho Hinoshita, Sayaka Murano, Kozue Otomune, Tsuzuri Yugiri, Rurino Osawa, and Megumi Fujishima, among others. The voice cast includes Nozomi Nirei, Kokona Nonaka, Niina Hanamiya, and Kotoko Sasaki.

This project marks a significant moment for the Hasu no Sora Jōgakuin club, which has primarily existed in the Link! Like! Love Live! smartphone game that launched in April 2023. The game will shut down on June 30, making this film potentially a farewell to the characters for dedicated players. Beyond the app, the group has released music, held concerts, appeared in magazines, and spawned a manga series.

The 3D film format is an interesting choice for Love Live!, offering a fresh perspective on the franchise's familiar school idol formula. Bloom Garden Party opens in Japan on May 8.
