New Evangelion 30th Anniversary Short Now Streaming

Evangelion fans can now watch the special anniversary short that premiered at February's "Evangelion:30+" festival. The brief anime focuses on Asuka Langley Soryu, one of the series' most popular pilots.

The short originally debuted on February 21 during the 30th anniversary celebration event. Studio Khara created this special screening as part of their commemoration of the legendary mecha series that first aired in 1995.

For those new to the franchise, Evangelion follows teenage pilots who control giant bio-mechanical units called Evas to defend against mysterious beings called Angels. The series became a cultural phenomenon and helped define modern anime.

Asuka, the Second Child and pilot of Evangelion Unit-02, has remained a fan favorite throughout the franchise's three-decade run. Her fiery personality and complex character development made her central to the series' emotional core.

The streaming release makes this anniversary content accessible to international fans who couldn't attend the original festival screening. This follows the conclusion of the Rebuild of Evangelion film series in 2021, which provided a new ending to creator Hideaki Anno's epic story.

While brief, the short represents another piece of the Evangelion legacy that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. The series' influence on anime culture remains strong even as it celebrates its 30th year.
