WEBTOON Entertainment is making significant changes to its leadership structure as it pushes for faster global expansion. The company announced the restructuring on Monday, establishing a Chief Business Officer role and promoting several executives to newly created positions.

Leah Goeun Yeon takes on the role of Chief Business Officer, the company's first to hold the title. In this position, she'll manage WEBTOON's webcomic platform business across Korea and international markets outside Japan, with responsibility for growth, marketing, content strategy, and creator management. Yeon brings substantial experience from her time as Chief Growth and Marketing Officer at Woowa Brothers, along with previous stints at McKinsey, Google, and Samsung Electronics.

The restructuring includes several other promotions aimed at streamlining operations. Yuki Chae moves up to Chief Product Officer to lead WEBTOON's global product strategy, while Teo Taeyeong Jang becomes Head of AI, focusing on content protection, discovery, and translation technologies. Sean Shinhyung Kim now leads the IP Business division, overseeing expansion of WEBTOON's intellectual properties into film, television, and games.

David J Lee, already serving as WEBTOON's global Chief Financial Officer, takes on the additional responsibility of President of Wattpadβ€”WEBTOON's writing platform subsidiary.

All new leaders report directly to President Yongsoo Kim, whose appointment earlier this year prompted the broader restructuring. The company frames these changes as an effort to integrate regional operations more effectively and improve execution speed across different markets.

The move reflects WEBTOON's ambitions to strengthen its position in the competitive digital content space. As a major player in webtoons and webcomics, the company faces ongoing competition from other platforms while also working to adapt its content for film, television, and gaming audiences. By consolidating leadership and creating clearer reporting structures, WEBTOON aims to make faster decisions and coordinate more efficiently between its various business units and geographic regions.
