[Alexandros] bassist Hiroyuki Isobe has stepped into the world of acting with his debut role in NHK's current historical drama "Toyotomi Kyodai!" (The Toyotomi Brothers!). The musician portrays Chosokabe Motochika, a prominent feudal lord from Japan's Sengoku period.
This marks Isobe's first foray into television drama, expanding his creative horizons beyond his role as the rhythmic backbone of one of Japan's most internationally recognized rock bands. [Alexandros], known for hits like "Wataridori" and their energetic live performances, has built a strong following both domestically and abroad since forming in 2007.
The casting choice reflects a growing trend of Japanese musicians crossing into acting roles, particularly in historical productions where their artistic sensibilities can bring fresh interpretations to classic characters. Chosokabe Motochika was a real historical figure who ruled the Tosa Province (modern-day Kochi Prefecture) during the late 16th century.
"Toyotomi Kyodai!" began airing in January and focuses on the dramatic story of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his brother during Japan's turbulent Sengoku era. The annual NHK historical drama series, known as "taiga drama," consistently attracts millions of viewers and often features both established actors and surprising celebrity cameos.
For [Alexandros] fans, seeing Isobe in period costume wielding a sword instead of a bass guitar offers an intriguing glimpse into the multi-talented musician's range beyond the stage.
