Enka Singer Ichikawa Yukino Returns to Fukushima After 6 Years
Enka artist Ichikawa Yukino visited Fukushima's Kunimi Town on May 24 for a mini live and PR event at a local roadside station, her first trip there since 2020. She performed her latest single 'Chirinuruwo,' released just days earlier.

Enka singer Ichikawa Yukino made a homecoming of sorts on May 24, visiting Fukushima's Kunimi Town for the first time in six years. The trip marked a special occasion at the "Atsukashi-no-Sato" roadside station, where roughly 400 local residents gathered to welcome her back.
Ichikawa has served as an ambassador for Kunimi Town since 2016, but the pandemic interrupted regular visits. This latest appearance held particular emotional weight—fans who grew up with her music mingled with newer admirers, creating a multigenerational atmosphere. Wearing a kimono adorned with peach motifs (a local specialty), Ichikawa greeted the crowd warmly before taking the stage.
Her setlist balanced nostalgia with promotion of her latest work. She opened with "Oboro," last year's award-winning track, then moved into fan favorites like "Tokyo da yo Okkasan," a song that resonated especially with the older attendees present. Her emotional connection to the town shone through during remarks about her mother and gratitude toward supporters.
The real highlight came when Ichikawa performed "Chirinuruwo," her freshly released single from May 13 and self-proclaimed "2026 gambit song." The track delivered what she describes as an electric jolt—fitting for an artist re-establishing her presence after health challenges in recent years.
Beyond the stage, Ichikawa engaged directly with the community. She posed for photos and signed items during meet-and-greets, then pivoted to promoting local products. She helped sell the town's black bread, cucumbers, and tomatoes—even sampling the produce herself, which was a light moment given her admitted preference to skip cucumbers.
This visit represents more than a concert stop. For Ichikawa, it's a continuation of her commitment to the town that's supported her comeback. For Kunimi residents, it's proof that their ambassador hasn't forgotten them, even as her career reaches new heights.
