Japanese folk-pop duo Kobukuro released their new single "Starry Smile Story" today via digital streaming platforms, celebrating exactly 25 years since their major label debut.

The duoβ€”consisting of Kentaro Kobuchi and Hiroki Kuroiwaβ€”first signed with Warner Music Japan on March 22, 1999, launching a career that would make them one of Japan's most beloved acoustic acts. Their harmonious vocals and heartfelt songwriting have earned them numerous hit singles and albums over the past two and a half decades.

To commemorate this milestone, Kobukuro also unveiled special anniversary visuals that recreate the jacket photography from their hit song "YELL." The track, originally released in 2007, became one of their signature songs and a graduation anthem beloved across Japan.

Kobukuro rose to prominence in the early 2000s with their acoustic guitar-driven sound and emotional ballads. They've sold millions of albums and singles throughout their career, with hits like "Sakura," "Tsubomi," and "Winding Road" becoming staples of Japanese pop culture.

The release of "Starry Smile Story" continues their tradition of marking special occasions with new music, showing that even after 25 years, the duo remains committed to creating songs that connect with their devoted fanbase across multiple generations.
