Inti Creates revealed plans to bring an enhanced version of its Azure Striker Gunvolt Trilogy to Nintendo Switch 2 this year, complete with a brand-new story mode. The announcement came during a presentation at the Bit Summit event.

The Switch 2 edition will support higher framerates and resolution displays while adding "Azure Striker Gunvolt GX," a fresh campaign that lets players control both Gunvolt and Copen as a tag-team duo. The new story mode introduces original weapons and abilities alongside a revamped "Inspiration" system that rewards players for switching between the two heroes at tactical moments to unlock gameplay bonuses and score multipliers.

Inti Creates is also planning a paid upgrade path for existing Switch owners, and the studio is exploring bringing the new story mode to other platforms as paid DLC. A playable demo was available at Bit Summit this weekend.

The trilogy collection originally launched for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch in July 2025, bringing together remastered versions of all three games with quality-of-life improvements. The collection features "Live Novel" dialogue that continues during missions without interrupting action, plus 37 vocal tracks by the "Muses" and full voice acting (with Gunvolt 1 and 2 featuring Japanese voices only).

The original Azure Striker Gunvolt debuted on Nintendo 3DS in North America back in August 2014, followed by sequels in 2016 and 2022. Over the years, the games have expanded across multiple platforms including Switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam. Beyond the games themselves, the franchise has extended into anime, with an adaptation that launched on the Nintendo eShop in February 2017.

With the Switch 2 enhancement, Inti Creates is clearly committed to keeping the Gunvolt series alive and accessible to both longtime fans and newcomers, blending the classic action gameplay with fresh content designed around the new hardware's capabilities.
