The cute bread characters from CHOCOLATE Inc.'s "Babies of Bread" ("Pan no Aka-chan") are getting their own television series. The studio announced that the CG film short, which debuted on YouTube in December 2024, will transform into a stop-motion TV show launching July 4 on KTV and Fuji TV.

The series will air Saturday mornings at 8:30 a.m. JST as part of the "Doyō wa Nanisuru!?" programming block. Director Haruka Ichikawa is returning to oversee the project alongside dwarf studios, handling direction, scriptwriting, and series planning. Character designer Riki Fuhrmann and composer Takao Ogi also rejoin the team to maintain continuity with the original short.

The production roster includes a full team of animators, puppet makers, and technical staff dedicated to bringing the bread world to life in stop-motion form. Producers Miyu Kobashi, Chiaki Sato, and Shōko Kawakami lead the effort across multiple departments, from photography and lighting to art and editing.

The original short centers on a bakery in the middle of the city where baby bread characters—Cream Bun, Baguette, Donut, and Croissant—work together to stop a burglar. The concept combines absurdist humor with genuine charm, making it an unexpected hit on YouTube.

This expansion represents a natural next step for the property, moving from a short-form digital release to traditional broadcast television in Japan. The shift from CG to stop-motion animation also marks a creative evolution, potentially allowing for more detailed character animation and a different aesthetic appeal. With the original team intact and a solid broadcast slot secured, the series is positioned to build on the short's existing fanbase while introducing the bread characters to a wider television audience.
