BluPetal, the English manga publisher launched last year by industry veterans from Crunchyroll, Seven Seas, and Viz, is making moves to expand its catalog and reach. At Anime Expo, the company announced it has licensed two new manga titles set to release in early 2027: Last Heaven by Masashi Kumamoto and The Black World is Dyed in White Chalk by Raika Suzumi. Both titles will be available in print and digital formats.

Last Heaven, a boys' love thriller from the & Emo imprint, follows Akira, the heir to a yakuza family protected by two former assassins employed by his late father. When internal threats force Akira into danger, his relationship with his guardians becomes complicated and darkly romantic. The manga originally released in Japan in May 2025.

The Black World is Dyed in White Chalk is a girls' love story exploring trauma and creativity. After a facial scar leaves her isolated, protagonist Mishiro finds solace in painting until meeting Kuroe, an upperclassman with her own struggles. The two connect through blackboard murals, gradually healing together. The manga launched on Line Manga and ebook Japan in February 2026, with Bunkasha releasing its first physical volume on July 16.

Beyond new licenses, BluPetal signed a marketing services deal with Japanese publisher Kaiohsha to handle English-language promotion and fan engagement for Gush Comics, Kaiohsha's boys' love imprint. BluPetal will manage social media channels and newsletters for the brand, with Last Heaven serving as the first Gush Comics title for English audiences.

The company also revealed it's developing a subscription platform launching at BluPetal.net, currently accepting early signups. The service will focus on content aimed at fans of BL, GL/yuri, shoujo, and josei genres—essentially BluPetal's core publishing focus. Specific launch timing wasn't announced.

These announcements reflect BluPetal's strategy to carve out space in the English manga market by focusing on women-oriented genres. With backing from former employees across major companies like Crunchyroll and Kodansha, the publisher is positioning itself as a dedicated home for BL, shoujo, yuri, josei, and related content.
