Bocchi the Rock! Gets Prequel Film in 2027
A new anime film adaptation of Aki Hamaji's Bocchi the Rock! manga will open in Japanese theaters in 2027, focusing on a prologue story about guitarist Nijika's older sister Seika. The film is directed by Shin Wakabayashi at CloverWorks.

Bocchi the Rock! is heading to theaters with a new anime film. Announced Sunday via teaser trailer, Eiga Bocchi the Rock! Hoshi no Ashiato (Bocchi the Rock! the Movie: Footprints of the Stars) will open in Japan in 2027.
The film adapts "Hoshi ni Tamukeru Ai no Hana," a special story from the end of the fifth manga volume that serves as a prologue centered on Seika Ijichi, the older sister of band member Nijika. Voice actress Maaya Uchida (Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!) will voice Seika, with Sayumi Suzushiro (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai) returning to voice Nijika.
Shin Wakabayashi, known for directing Wonder Egg Priority, is helming the film at CloverWorks. Erika Yoshida, who wrote the screenplay for the television anime, returns for the film. Character design comes from Yukiko Horiguchi, who worked on K-ON!, Lucky Star, and Tamako Market.
The Bocchi the Rock! manga, created by Aki Hamaji, launched in December 2017 and continues to run in Houbunsha's Manga Time Kirara Max. The series inspired a television anime that premiered in October 2022, followed by two compilation films—Bocchi the Rock! Re: (June 2024) and Bocchi the Rock! Re:Re: (August 2024). A second season of the TV anime was announced in February 2025.
Animec is distributing the film.
