Konami revealed a fresh entry in the Castlevania franchise during Xbox Games Showcase 2026, announcing Castlevania: Belmont's Curse will release October 15 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Cloud, PC via Steam, and Xbox PC. Nintendo Switch players will get the game later in 2026.

The game marks the first entirely new mainline Castlevania title since Lords of Shadow 2 in 2014, taking players to 15th-century Paris where the protagonist—a successor to Trevor Belmont—wields the legendary Vampire Killer whip. The story unfolds over two decades after Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse and connects to the recent animated series, following this new Belmont as they descend into a city overrun by monsters and a mysterious castle to save Parisians from darkness.

Evil Empire and Motion Twin, the developer duo behind the acclaimed roguelike Dead Cells, are crafting the experience. The game blends weapon and spell mastery with exploration elements that reward curiosity—players who thoroughly investigate the sinister castle will discover additional secrets and advantages.

The announcement comes at a time when Castlevania's profile is rising. Konami released the Castlevania Dominus Collection in August 2024, bundling three Nintendo DS classics (Dawn of Sorrow, Portrait of Ruin, and Order of Ecclesia) alongside the original arcade Haunted Castle and a reimagined version. Meanwhile, Netflix's Castlevania: Nocturne spinoff series, which premiered in September 2023, returned for its second season in January 2025. That show focuses on Richter Belmont—a descendant of the original animated series' protagonists—during the French Revolution in 1792, providing another dimension to the franchise's expanding universe.

With Belmont's Curse launching this fall, Castlevania fans will have multiple entry points whether they're drawn to the franchise's gothic action roots or its animated storytelling. The game's fresh take on the Belmont legacy, combined with developer pedigree from the Dead Cells team, positions it as a significant return for a series that's been dormant on the game front for over a decade.
