GKIDS announced plans to bring Studio 4°C's ChaO to home video, releasing the anime film on Blu-ray Disc on September 22. The 1080p release will include bonus features like storyboards, animatics, trailers, and ending credits, with audio in Japanese and subtitles in English, English SDH, Spanish, and French.

The film is already available digitally in the U.S., with a Canadian digital release coming later. ChaO originally premiered in Japan in August 2025 before screening across North America on April 10, eventually reaching 16 countries worldwide.

Directed by Yasuhiro Aoki and featuring character design by Hirokazu Kojima, ChaO is a romantic comedy that follows Stephan, a salaryman at a shipbuilding company whose ordinary life gets turned upside down when Chao, a princess from the mermaid kingdom, suddenly proposes to him. What starts as chaos gradually develops into genuine romance as Chao's sincere affection begins breaking through Stephan's emotional walls.

The voice cast includes Ōji Suzuka (Kimi ni Todoke, The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes) as Stephan and Anna Yamada (live-action Golden Kamuy, Saki) as Chao. The film's creative team also features art director Hiroshi Takiguchi (Ajin, The Garden of Words) and composer Takatsugu Muramatsu (Mary and The Witch's Flower).

ChaO has already found success on the festival circuit, winning the Jury Prize at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June 2025 and screening at prestigious events including JAPAN CUTS in New York, the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal, and the Ottawa International Animation Festival. The opening theme "ChaO!" was performed by Kumi Kōda and written specifically for the film.

With its blend of humor, heart, and Studio 4°C's distinctive animation style, ChaO offers anime fans a fresh take on the romance genre. The Blu-ray release gives viewers a chance to experience the film with high-quality visuals and multiple language options.
