CloverWorks revealed major details about its upcoming omnibus anime film Grotesqqque at Anime Expo, confirming a November 6 debut in Japan. The project represents an ambitious collaboration featuring 35 musical acts and three separate stories with different visual worlds.

Director Atsushi Nishigori (DARLING in the FRANXX, The IDOLM@STER) is helming the film and wrote the screenplay. The three segments are titled "Aeliens," "4649 Girl" (a wordplay on the Japanese phrase "Yoroshiku" using the numbers 4649), and "Nocturne: Kono Grotesque na Yoru ni."

The film will make its world premiere at Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal from July 16 to August 2, ahead of its Japanese theatrical run.

CloverWorks unveiled a trailer at the Anime Expo panel that showcases all three stories and previews the opening theme song "Shoot Shoot Shoot" by METALVERSE. The cast includes voice actors like Maaya Uchida, Rie Kugimiya, and Saori Hayami, along with members of idol group Nogizaka46 including Nagi Inoue, Aruno Nakanishi, Miku Ichinose, and Nao Tomisato.

The musical lineup reflects Grotesqqque's emphasis on original music, featuring artists like ASCA, JUNNA, Reol, and Nanahira alongside several up-and-coming musicians. This extensive collaboration suggests the film aims to blend anime storytelling with contemporary music culture.

The "Aeliens" segment features characters Elie and Kento Kurikura, while "4649 Girl" centers on Stella, Hikarin, and other characters with a distinct visual aesthetic. "Nocturne" rounds out the omnibus with its own cast including Ayame, Shion, Momo, and Canna.

With its release date now locked and world premiere confirmed, Grotesqqque is positioning itself as one of CloverWorks' most ambitious theatrical projects, combining original animation with a star-studded musical roster.
