Crayon Shin-chan's 33rd Film Adds FRUITS ZIPPER Idols to Cast
The upcoming Crayon Shin-chan film will feature idol group members Runa Nakagawa and Noel Hayase in guest roles. The movie, arriving July 31, follows the Nohara family as they encounter chaos when yōkai escape into Japan.
The 33rd Crayon Shin-chan film is getting some star power from the idol world. FRUITS ZIPPER members Runa Nakagawa and Noel Hayase will appear in guest roles in Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation), arriving in Japanese theaters on July 31.
While their specific character details haven't been revealed, both idols have been appointed as "Spooky Monster Booster Team" members to help promote the film. The timing makes sense—FRUITS ZIPPER already performs the current theme song for the ongoing TV series, "Hacha Mecha Wacha life!"
The film's plot centers on yōkai mayhem. The story begins when the Nohara family travels to Akita for a summer fireworks festival at Hiroshi's hometown. An incident accidentally releases yōkai from their realm, causing them to wreak havoc across Akita and beyond. The family then ventures into the land of yōkai itself, discovering a mysterious world that somehow feels nostalgic as they navigate an unpredictable adventure.
The main cast includes returning voice actors Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Satomi Koorogi. New to the film is Sairi Itō, voicing Yako, a nine-tailed fox yōkai. Sakamoto from comedy duo Mayurika plays a squid yōkai who's the first baseman for the Edomae Sushies baseball team—apparently they challenge Shin-chan and friends to a game.
Director Masaki Watanabe (Battle Spirits: Heroes, Sakamoto Days) and screenwriter Yoshiko Nakamura (Re:ZERO, PriPara) are handling production duties. Shinei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions, and Futabasha are producing, with TOHO distributing. Singer TOMOO performs the film's theme track, "Otona ni Nattara" (When I Become an Adult).
The last Crayon Shin-chan film, which released in August 2025, performed strongly, earning about $4.33 million in its first four days with over 516,000 tickets sold. The franchise continues its decades-long run—the original series premiered in April 1992 and currently airs Saturday mornings on TV Asahi.
