Crayon Shin-chan fans got their first extended look at the franchise's 33rd 2D film this week, with a full trailer and poster debut. Eiga Crayon Shin-chan Kikikaikai! Ora no Yōkai Bake-shon (Crayon Shin-chan The Movie Super Strange! My Yōkai Monster Vacation) is heading to Japanese theaters on July 31.

The trailer previews "Otona ni Nattara" (When I Become an Adult), the film's theme song performed by TOMOO. The track plays over footage teasing the movie's plot: the Nohara family travels to Hiroshi's hometown in Akita for a summer fireworks festival, but yōkai accidentally escape from their hidden realm and begin causing trouble across Japan. What follows is an unpredictable adventure when the family ventures into the land of yōkai itself—described as "mysterious yet nostalgic."

The cast brings fresh faces alongside familiar voices. Sairi Itō voices Yako, a nine-tailed fox yōkai, while Sakamoto from comedy duo Mayurika plays a Squid Yōkai who's apparently the first baseman for the Edomae Sushies baseball team. The film reunites series regulars Yumiko Kobayashi, Miki Narahashi, Toshiyuki Morikawa, and Satomi Koorogi.

Director Masaki Watanabe (Battle Spirits: Heroes, Sakamoto Days) leads the project, with Yoshiko Nakamura scripting. The writer has experience with both the Re:ZERO franchise and the anime series PriPara. Shinei Animation, TV Asahi, ADK Emotions, and Futabasha are producing, with TOHO handling distribution.

This follows last year's 32nd film, Crayon Shin-chan the Movie: Super Magnificent! Scorching Kasukabe Dancers, which proved the franchise's box office staying power. That August 2025 release earned roughly $4.3 million and sold 516,000 tickets in its opening weekend.

Crayon Shin-chan itself continues thriving across media. The original TV series airs Saturdays on TV Asahi, and a spinoff manga focused on Hiroshi Nohara's lunch adventures recently spawned its own TV anime series on the same network.
