Crunchyroll is now streaming the original anime DVD (OAD) special episodes for Kamisama Kiss, giving fans another way to revisit the romantic supernatural comedy. The four OADs originally shipped with volumes 22-25 of Julietta Suzuki's manga, plus an additional episode bundled with a 2016 fanbook release.

The anime adaptation spans two TV seasons, both of which Funimation previously streamed and released on home video. Those seasons covered the main storyline of the manga, which ran from 2008 to 2016 across 25 volumes. Viz Media handles the English-language manga release.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Kamisama Kiss follows Nanami, a girl who becomes homeless when her father abandons her. She stumbles upon a man offering shelter—only to discover his home is a Shinto shrine and he's a deity ready to pass his divine status to her. The catch involves a contract with Tomoe, a yōkai tied to the shrine, sealed in a decidedly unconventional way: with a kiss.

The premise blends romantic tension with supernatural elements and comedy, creating a story that resonated enough to sustain 25 manga volumes and two anime seasons. The OAD episodes offer extra content for viewers who've already completed the TV run and want more time with Nanami and Tomoe's dynamic.

Suzuki has moved on to new projects since wrapping Kamisama Kiss, most recently launching Otaku Vampire's Love Bite (Oshi ni Amagami) in 2022, also serialized in Hana to Yume magazine. A Kamisama Kiss spinoff chapter did appear in January 2020, though these new Crunchyroll additions appear to be the OAD episodes rather than new material.

The timing of this Crunchyroll addition makes the series accessible to a fresh audience and gives longtime fans a convenient way to catch or rewatch the special episodes without hunting down physical media.
