Crunchyroll Drops Same-Day English Dub for 'Goodbye, Lara'
Crunchyroll is streaming a same-day English dub for Kinema Citrus' original anime 'Goodbye, Lara,' which premiered July 5. The series puts a modern twist on The Little Mermaid story, following a mermaid reborn in contemporary Japan.

Crunchyroll wasted no time bringing 'Goodbye, Lara' to English-speaking audiences. The platform debuted a same-day dub for the original anime just hours after its Japanese premiere on July 5, matching the series' ongoing weekly release schedule.
The English cast includes Brianna Knickerbocker as the titular Lara, alongside Anairis Quiñones, Tiana Camacho, Cat Protano, and Tara Sands. Gavin Harrison directs the dub and heads casting, with VSI Los Angeles handling production duties.
About the Series
'Goodbye, Lara' takes inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Little Mermaid' but sets it in modern-day Japan. The story follows a mermaid who makes a forbidden wish to be loved by a human. After her death, she's reborn 200 years later in Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake, where she must navigate life as a human in a contemporary world. The Lake Biwa setting holds personal significance for director Takushi Koide, whose hometown is in Shiga prefecture where the lake is located.
Kinema Citrus is producing the series with Takushi Koide directing and Anna Kawahara supervising scripts. Character designer Shiori Tani and composer Yuma Yamaguchi round out the core creative team. The opening theme, "Sayonara Lara," comes from the band Ikimono-gakari.
Where to Watch
The anime aired on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, YTV, and AT-X in Japan, with Crunchyroll streaming it simultaneously for international audiences. The platform's commitment to same-day dubbing means English-speaking fans can watch without waiting for subtitle-only episodes to air first—a growing trend for Crunchyroll's original anime content.
