Crunchyroll revealed plans to stream the Kagurabachi anime adaptation starting April 2027, bringing the hit manga series to audiences worldwide outside Japan, Mainland China, North Korea, and South Korea.

The adaptation stars Taihi Kimura as protagonist Chihiro Rokuhira and Tomokazu Seki as Kunishige Rokuhira, with veteran seiyuu Katsuyuki Konishi voicing Togo Shiba. Director Tetsuya Takeuchi (who previously directed From Bureaucrat to Villainess: Dad's Been Reincarnated! and served as key animator on Naruto) is helming the project at studio Cypic, with character designer Keigo Sasaki (Blue Exorcist, Uma Musume: Cinderella Gray) on board.

Before the April premiere, Crunchyroll is launching a "world tour" event starting this July at major anime conventions. Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Japan Expo Paris, and ANImagic in Mannheim, Germany will screen the first 20 minutes of episode one, with Anime NYC joining in August. The full first episode will premiere at a spring 2027 screening in Japan.

Kagurabachi follows young swordsmith Chihiro, whose peaceful life training under his father takes a dark turn when tragedy strikes. Now he fights for revenge with his blade, delivering epic sword-based action. The premise has clearly resonated with readers—the manga topped the print category at the 2024 Next Manga Awards and earned nominations for both the Shogakukan and Kodansha Manga Awards. It also snagged a 2025 Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards nomination and ranked #13 on Da Vinci's top manga list for 2025.

Takeru Hokazono launched the series in Weekly Shonen Jump in September 2023. The manga has since accumulated 4 million copies in circulation, with Viz Media bringing the English print release stateside alongside Shueisha's free MANGA Plus service and Viz's Shonen Jump digital platform.

The anime production committee includes Shochiku and CyberAgent, the latter bringing expertise through its Cygames animation division, which has previously worked on anime adaptations of major gaming properties.
