Netflix announced that Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 will premiere this fall with a new visual revealing the anime's main characters: Weak Kingsley, Talia Yang, Roman Carax, and D. The sequel marks a directorial debut for Kai Ikarashi, who previously worked as a storyboard artist, animation director, and animator on the first series.

The creative team behind the original anime is largely returning. Bartosz Sztybor, who produced and wrote the first series, continues in both roles, while Ichigo Kanno returns as lead character designer and Masahiko Otsuka reprises his work as scriptwriter. The studio behind the original series, Studio Trigger, is producing the sequel.

Unlike a direct continuation, the new series presents a standalone story set within the Cyberpunk 2077 world. The official description frames it as "a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge," posing the question: "When the world is blinded by spectacle, what extremes do you have to go to make your story matter?" The series will consist of 10 episodes streaming on Netflix.

The first Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime debuted on Netflix in September 2022, adapting the universe of CD PROJEKT RED's video game based on Mike Pondsmith's Cyberpunk tabletop RPG. The show became a critical success and helped spark renewed interest in Cyberpunk 2077 following its rocky launch.

Home video releases are already scheduled for multiple regions. Aniplex of America will release a complete Blu-ray set in North America on October 28, while Anime Limited and Plaion Pictures handle the European release and Sugoi Co covers Australia and New Zealand.

The expanded Cyberpunk: Edgerunners universe also includes a prequel manga titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Madness, illustrated by Asano (BNA: Brand New Animal manga) and written by Bartosz Sztybor. The manga launched on Comic Alive+ in December and is receiving releases in seven languages beyond Japanese, with Dark Horse publishing the English print edition.
