The production team behind Daemons of the Shadow Realm announced two new cast additions to the anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's manga series. Veteran seiyuu Kappei Yamaguchi will voice Hikaru Kagemori, while Yoshiko Sakakibara will take on the role of Kai.

These new cast members join an already established lineup that includes Kenshō Ono as protagonist Yuru, Yume Miyamoto as his twin sister Asa, and Yūichi Nakamura as Dera. The full ensemble also features Misaki Kuno, Takako Honda, Rikiya Koyama, Miyuri Shimabukuro, and Junichi Suwabe in supporting roles.

The anime is being produced by Bones Film with director Masahiro Andō (known for Sword of the Stranger) at the helm. Noboru Takagi is overseeing the series scripts, bringing experience from Kingdom and Golden Kamuy, while character designer Nobuhiro Arai comes from Bungo Stray Dogs. The soundtrack is composed by Kenichiro Suehiro, who has worked on Golden Kamuy and Re:ZERO.

For the opening theme, alternative artist Vaundy performs "Tobu Toki" (Time to Fly) for the first half of the series, with singer yama handling the ending theme "Tobō yo" (Let's Fly).

The story follows Yuru, who lives peacefully in a remote mountain village with his twin sister Asa—though their idyllic existence hides dark secrets. Asa is confined to a cage while performing a mysterious "duty" for the village, and the truth behind her imprisonment becomes central to the narrative.

The anime premiered April 4 across multiple Japanese broadcast channels and is currently streaming on Crunchyroll with simultaneous English dubbing for international audiences. The series is scheduled to run for two consecutive cours (seasons), giving viewers an extended viewing window for this dark fantasy adaptation.

Arakawa, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist and Silver Spoon, began serializing the manga in Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan in December 2021. The manga has already reached 12 compiled volumes as of March 2026.
