Darkroom, a specialty streaming service focused on world cinema, has picked up Haré+Guu Deluxe with an English dub for North American audiences. The series is now available to premium subscribers in the USA and Canada.

Haré+Guu Deluxe is an original video anime based on Renjuro Kindaichi's Jungle wa Itsumo Hare Nochi Guu manga, which launched in 1996. The story follows Haré, a boy living in the jungle with his mother, whose life takes a chaotic turn when a mysterious girl named Guu mysteriously moves into their household.

The property has a notable history in North America. AN Entertainment previously licensed both the original television series and the Deluxe OVA for English-speaking fans, making this Darkroom release part of an expanding availability for the beloved comedy.

Interestingly, Darkroom also lists Haré+Guu FINAL with Japanese audio on its platform, though no episodes were available at the time of the announcement. This suggests the service may be working toward a more complete collection of the franchise.

Darkroom describes itself as "a portal for treasures of world cinema, perhaps not easily found on other platforms"—positioning itself as something akin to Criterion but focused on more recent discoveries. The addition of Haré+Guu Deluxe fits that mission, offering access to a cult classic that's been harder to find in recent years.

Meanwhile, Kindaichi continues creating new work. The manga artist's ongoing series Yūbe wa Otanoshimi Deshita ne (Rooming with a Gamer Gal) is currently serializing on Gangan Online, with Square Enix's Manga UP! Global service offering English translations since December 2023.

For fans of '90s-era comedy anime or those curious about a series that inspired both a TV run and multiple OVA entries, Haré+Guu Deluxe is now more accessible than it's been in years.
