Detective Conan Voice Actress Wakana Yamazaki Takes Medical Hiatus
Wakana Yamazaki, the longtime voice actress behind Detective Conan's Ran MΕri, will be taking a hiatus from the role to focus on medical treatment. Akemi Okamura will step in as the temporary voice of Ran starting with the episode airing on March 14.
Yamazaki has been the voice of Ran MΕri since Detective Conan began airing in 1996, bringing the character to life for over 1,000 episodes. Ran is Shinichi Kudo's childhood friend and karate champion who remains unaware that the young Conan Edogawa is actually her shrunken boyfriend.
For fans unfamiliar with the series, Detective Conan follows high school detective Shinichi Kudo, who gets transformed into a child's body after being poisoned by a criminal organization. He solves mysteries while living with Ran and her detective father, hoping to find a way back to his original form.
Akemi Okamura brings extensive voice acting experience to the temporary role, having voiced characters in series like One Piece (Nami) and Ranma Β½ (Ranma Saotome female form). Her versatility and established career make her a solid choice to maintain continuity for this beloved character.
The Detective Conan anime continues its weekly broadcast while Yamazaki focuses on her health. The production team has not announced a timeline for her potential return to the series.
