Discotek Announces Patlabor Early Days OVA and Classic Anime Releases

Home video distributor Discotek has announced they will be releasing the beloved 1988 Mobile Police Patlabor: Early Days OVA series, bringing this mecha classic to modern audiences.

The six-episode OVA series served as the introduction to the Patlabor franchise, which follows a special police unit that operates giant robots called Labors in near-future Tokyo. Created by the creative group Headgear, which included director Mamoru Oshii and character designer Akemi Takada, the series helped establish Patlabor as one of the most respected mecha franchises in anime.

Alongside the Patlabor announcement, Discotek is also re-releasing two other classic titles. The Rose of Versailles TV anime, the legendary 1979 series about Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution, will get a fresh home video release. The company is also bringing back the Lupin III TV specials from 1994-1998, giving fans another chance to own these adventures of the master thief.

Discotek has built a reputation for rescuing and preserving classic anime titles, often providing English subtitles and restored video quality for series that haven't been available for years. Their commitment to bringing older anime to new generations has made them a favorite among collectors and anime historians.

No specific release dates have been announced yet for any of these titles, but fans can expect more details about pricing and bonus features in the coming months.
