Fairy Princess Minky Momo fans have reason to celebrate. The beloved magical girl franchise is returning with a brand-new OVA titled Mahō no Princess Minky Momo Akogare no Yume e Magokoro no Duo (Fairy Princess Minky Momo A Duo of Sincerity Toward a Dream of Longing), arriving in Japan on November 13. This marks the franchise's first new original video anime since 1994's Minky Momo in The Station of Your Memories—a 32-year gap.

The new OVA takes the classic concept and updates it for the smartphone era. When the land of Diginarsa (a realm sustained by dream energy) begins disappearing as humans lose hope, the king sends three companions to recruit help from Minky Momo. On her 12th birthday, a girl named Momo receives a smartphone, awakens as the magical princess, and vows to save Diginarsa. As she collects dream energy, though, Momo discovers a troubling trend: a viral app is flooding the city with shallow dreams fueled only by the desire for likes and followers. The story follows Momo as she grapples with what real dreams mean in a social media-obsessed world.

The voice cast includes Kurumi Haruki as Minky Momo, Fukushi Ochiai as Dettabook, Natsumi Fujiwara as Chamocha, and Rie Kugimiya (My Hero Academia, Fire Force) as Pipirupi.

Director Ayumu Watanabe (Witch Hat Atelier, Space Brothers) is steering the project at animation studio Ashi Production. Character design comes from Hiroshi Watanabe, who worked on the original 1982-1983 series, alongside Mari Tominaga from the 1994 OVA. The script is handled by Deko Akao, known for Arakawa Under the Bridge, with music by Tomoki Hasegawa.

The original 1982-1983 anime introduced English audiences to the concept through William Winckler Productions' dubbed release, describing Minky Momo as a princess from a magical world sent to Earth to restore people's lost hopes and dreams using magic and her animal companions.

With its timely commentary on social media and dream fulfillment, this new OVA appears ready to introduce Minky Momo's core message to a fresh generation.
