The Flaming Dodgeball Girl Danko anime has announced two additions to its voice cast. Noriko Hidaka voices Misato Ichigeki, Danko's mother, while Misato Fukuen plays Haruka Ichigeki, Danko's grandmother. The reveal came during the show's second episode on Monday.

Hidaka brings particular significance to the project—she previously voiced Danpei Ichigeki in the original 1991 Flaming Dodgeball anime and reprises that role in flashback scenes for this sequel. She's also handling narration duties for the new series.

Flaming Dodgeball Girl Danko is the television adaptation of Tetsuhiro Koshita's manga sequel, which follows Danko as she assembles the strongest dodgeball team of the Reiwa era. The original manga ran from 1989 to 1995 in Monthly CoroCoro Comic, spawning a 47-episode anime from 1991-1992. Koshita launched the sequel in November 2022 on the Weekly CoroCoro Comic website, with six volumes published as of August 2025.

The current anime adaptation premiered on July 6 and features a strong production team. Director Hiroshi Ikehata (known for Dark Gathering and TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You) helms the series at CUE, while Kazuho Hyōdō handles scripts and Narihito Sekikawa manages character design and chief animation direction.

The ensemble voice cast includes Manaka Nakayama as Danko, Katsuyuki Konishi as her father Danpei (adult), and Sumire Uesaka as teammate Hako Mikasa. The opening theme "Kaishin no Ichigeki" (A Masterful Play) is performed by girl group Momoiro Clover Z, with voice idol unit i☆Ris handling the ending theme "Welcome to Azatosa World."

With its connection to a beloved '90s classic and an experienced creative staff, the anime appears positioned to introduce a new generation to Koshita's dodgeball universe while satisfying longtime fans.
