Garena has officially announced Free Fire Daybreak, an anime adaptation of its massively popular mobile battle royale game. The series will debut in spring 2027 and air worldwide across broadcast and streaming platforms.

Ken Takahashi, known for directing Ragna Crimson and Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya, is helming the project. Japanese studio Candy Box (Blue Archive The Animation, Azur Lane: Slow Ahead!) is producing the animation, while Sus4 Inc. handles music composition. Kadokawa and Garena are co-producing the series, with Kadokawa's Kadokawa Qingyu subsidiary serving as production manager.

The announcement came via the anime's official X/Twitter account alongside a new visual. While details about the story and cast remain sparse, the adaptation aims to bring the game's high-octane gameplay to the screen.

Free Fire has been a juggernaut in mobile gaming since its December 2017 launch. The third-person shooter drops players onto an island where they compete against dozens of opponents, collecting weapons and supplies while hunting or evading enemies until only one remains standing. The game consistently ranked as the world's most downloaded mobile title from 2019 to 2021, and held the top spot for mobile battle royales in 2022 and 2023. As of February 2024, it boasted 100 million daily active users.

The anime announcement represents Kadokawa's continued push into adapting successful gaming properties. With established talent both behind the camera and in production, Free Fire Daybreak could tap into the existing fanbase while introducing the game's universe to anime audiences. The worldwide broadcast strategy signals confidence in international appeal.
