Crunchyroll has shared the first look at the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime with three character visuals and a group shot featuring the Ronin, Hunter, and Assassin protagonists. The announcement marks the next phase of the video game adaptation, launching exclusively on Crunchyroll in 2027.

The anime is being directed by Takanobu Mizuno, who previously helmed the "The Duel" short for Star Wars: Visions. Production is being handled by Kamikaze Douga, the studio behind other notable anime including Batman Ninja and Sand Land. Character design duties fall to Takashi Okazaki, while screenwriting comes from Satoshi Maejima and acclaimed writer Gen Urobuchi, with HAYATE Inc. overseeing the overall production. Aniplex and Sony Music are collaborating on the project, with the latter serving as music and soundtrack partner.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends started as a multiplayer expansion to Sucker Punch Productions' original Ghost of Tsushima, which launched on PlayStation 4 in 2020 and later came to PlayStation 5 and PC. Unlike the historical drama of the main game—which fictionalizes the 1274 Mongol invasion of Tsushima—the Legends component draws from Japanese folklore and mythology, giving the anime a different cultural foundation to explore.

The source material has proven successful across multiple platforms. The original game spawned a direct sequel, Ghost of Yōtei, which released in October 2025 and shifted the setting to 1603 Hokkaido, over 300 years after the first game's events. The Legends multiplayer mode became available as a standalone title in September 2021, building a dedicated player base.

With this creative team assembled, the Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime appears positioned to honor both the game's visual style and its unique approach to Japanese mythology. Fans of the franchise and anime adapted from video games have plenty of reason to keep an eye on this 2027 release.
