Gintama Creator's Dandelion One-Shot Gets Netflix Anime Series in April

Hideaki Sorachi, the beloved creator behind the long-running comedy series Gintama, is getting another anime adaptationβ€”this time for his very first manga work. Dandelion, Sorachi's debut one-shot manga, will premiere as a 7-episode Netflix series this April.

The anime stars voice actors Chikahiro Kobayashi and Megumi Han as angels whose job is to help lingering souls find their way to the afterlife. While details about the specific plot remain limited, the supernatural premise offers a different tone from Sorachi's most famous work.

For those unfamiliar with Sorachi's background, he's best known for creating Gintama, the sci-fi comedy series that ran for over 15 years and spawned multiple anime seasons. The series became famous for its blend of humor, action, and heartfelt moments, making Sorachi a household name among anime fans.

Dandelion represents a return to Sorachi's earliest creative work, giving fans a chance to see where his storytelling journey began. The one-shot format suggests a more focused narrative compared to the episodic nature of Gintama.

Netflix's decision to adapt this lesser-known work shows the streaming platform's continued investment in anime content, particularly from established creators. With only 7 episodes planned, viewers can expect a complete story that doesn't require the long-term commitment of Sorachi's previous series.

The April release puts Dandelion in Netflix's spring anime lineup, competing for attention alongside other seasonal releases.
