Takashi Yamazaki's highly anticipated sequel to the record-breaking Godzilla Minus One officially entered production mode this week with the release of a new teaser trailer and poster, along with details that cement its status as a major international event film.

The teaser confirms Min Tanaka (known for 47 Ronin and the live-action Rurouni Kenshin films) as Kanji Murakami, a biologist joining the returning cast. Ryūnosuke Kamiki, Minami Hamabe, and Hidetaka Yoshioka reprise their roles from the first film, along with Yūki Yamada, Kuranosuke Sasaki, Sakura Andō, and Miō Tanaka.

Godzilla Minus Zero makes history as the first Japanese film to meet IMAX standards for theatrical presentation. Yamazaki returns as director, screenwriter, and VFX supervisor, with composer Naoki Satō returning to the score. Production is underway at TOHO Studios with ROBOT handling production and Shirogumi Inc. on visual effects duties.

The film arrives November 3 in Japan—deliberately timed for Godzilla Day, marking the 72nd anniversary of the original 1954 film's release. North America gets it November 6, marking the first time a Japan-produced Godzilla sequel opens simultaneously in both regions. The film will also roll out the same week across Latin America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand.

Set in 1949, two years after the first film's events, the sequel continues the story established by Godzilla Minus One, which became a phenomenon in its own right. The first film earned over $116 million worldwide and became the third highest-grossing foreign-language film in the U.S. market in 2024.

GKIDS and TOHO will handle North American distribution. TOHO acquired GKIDS in October 2024, establishing a partnership that now extends to this global rollout. Additional international release dates will be announced later.

Fans who want to revisit Godzilla Minus One before the sequel's arrival can stream it on Netflix worldwide, with additional purchase and rental options available through various digital platforms in North America and exclusive Amazon Prime availability in Japan.
