DMM TV announced that the live-action adaptation of Toshiya Wakabayashi's Happy Kanako's Killer Life manga is getting a second season, set to premiere in September 2026 on the streaming platform.

Actors Non and Taisuke Fujigaya are back in their roles as Kanako and Sakurai, respectively. Director Tsutomu Hanabusa, known for the live-action Tokyo Revengers adaptation, returns to helm the series alongside writers Ruriko Matsushima and Yūsuke Aose.

The announcement comes off the heels of the first season's success on DMM TV, which launched in February 2025. According to the streaming service, the show accumulated over 130 million total views across social media, signaling strong audience engagement.

Happy Kanako's Killer Life follows Nishino Kanako, a frustrated office worker who stumbles into an unexpected career change—as a contract assassin. Despite her lack of confidence, she discovers she's surprisingly talented at the job. The story blends dark comedy with her attempts to gain respect from her coworker Sakurai, a prickly but attractive fellow killer.

The manga originated as a four-panel web series on Twitter and Wakabayashi's pixivFANBOX account before being serialized by Seikaisha on its Twi4 platform. The series has proven popular enough to inspire both the live-action adaptation and an English release through Seven Seas Entertainment, which is currently publishing the manga in English.

Wakabayashi is also known for Tsuredure Children, a school romance manga that ran from 2012 to 2018 and received a television anime adaptation in 2017. That series aired on Crunchyroll with English subtitles and later received a dub on Funimation.

The second season of the live-action Happy Kanako's Killer Life will continue where the first left off, with the cast and crew promising "powered-up" action sequences and sharper chemistry between the leads. The series maintains its balance of humor and action that earned it a dedicated fanbase during its initial run.
