The Hero Killer webtoon is getting closer to the screen with major production updates announced at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival this week.

David Pagaille, known for directing Moonlit Bamboo Forest, will lead the animated adaptation. French animation studio Passion Paris has joined the project as co-producer, teaming up with Animation Digital Network (ADN), the French studio and streaming platform that originally partnered with Jaedam Media on the project in 2025.

To celebrate the announcement, the production team revealed a new teaser visual created by original webtoon creators Kkulbeol and Beolkkul, alongside a newly launched official website and social media accounts.

Hero Killer is an ongoing action-fantasy series from Naver Webtoon that follows Lee Hwa, a young woman seeking revenge against the so-called heroes after one of them murders her sister. The webtoon has proven popular globally, with translations in 10 languages and over 250 episodes published worldwide. English readers can access the series on WEBTOON.

Jaedam Media first announced the animation project in October 2025 following a production agreement with ADN signed at the SPP International Content Market. The addition of Passion Paris signals growing momentum for the adaptation, bringing French animation expertise into the mix alongside ADN's existing involvement.

With a director attached and multiple studios now on board, the Hero Killer anime is moving into active development. More details about voice cast, release timeline, and streaming availability are expected to emerge as production continues.
