The live-action film adaptation of Ryō Nakama's High School Family: Kokosei Kazoku manga won't arrive until early 2027. A new teaser trailer and visual released this week confirm the film's January 8, 2027 opening date, pushing it back from its originally planned fall 2026 release.

The film follows Kotaro as he enters his first year of high school with high hopes—only to have those dreams derailed by his chaotic family. Nakama, known for creating the long-running comedy series Isobe Isobee Monogatari ~ Ukiyo wa Tsuraiyo, brings his knack for blending school and family comedy to this project.

The cast includes Jun Saitō (Trillion Game) as eldest son Kotaro, Riisa Naka (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time) as mother Shizuka, Shingo Katori (Lil' Red Riding Hood Cha-Cha) as father Ichiro, and Yuno Nagao (live-action Golden Kamuy) as younger sister Haruka. Tôichirô Rutô (live-action Violence Action) directs from a script by Makoto Ueda, a writer known for his work on The Tatami Galaxy and Penguin Highway.

The original manga ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from September 2020 to February 2023, concluding with 11 volumes. Viz Media publishes the series in English digitally alongside MANGA Plus, making it accessible to international readers.

Nakama has a strong track record adapting his work to other media. His previous series, Isobe Isobee Monogatari, inspired two net anime adaptations and a stage play, showing his stories translate well beyond the manga page. This live-action adaptation aims to capture that same comedic charm for a new audience.

With the teaser now live, fans can expect more promotional material leading up to the January 2027 debut.
