Chukyo TV has greenlit a live-action television series based on Keiko Suenobu's manga Ochitara Owari, continuing the author's track record of bringing her relationship-focused stories to screen.

The series debuts July 1 in the Wednesday Platinum Night timeslot across Chukyo TV, NTV, and affiliated channels nationwide. Mariko Shinoda, known for her roles in Terra Formars and Kaiji: Final Game, plays protagonist Kumiko Mamiya. Television announcer Misato Ugaki takes on the role of Asumi Tsukishima, with Taeko Asano (live-action Marmalade Boy) handling script duties.

The story centers on Asumi, a housewife who achieves her dream of moving into a prestigious high-rise apartment building with her family after five years of marriage. There, she forms friendships with other mothers—but the building also houses Kumiko, an old classmate with whom she shares complicated history.

The manga originally ran in Kodansha's Be Love magazine from June 2019 through September 2023, concluding with a ten-volume collection. Suenobu has maintained a steady output, recently launching her new series Addict in Be Love this April.

This isn't Suenobu's first journey into live-action adaptation. Her earlier work Life, a 20-volume shōjo series that won the Kodansha Manga Award in 2006, received a live-action TV adaptation back in 2007. Life 2: Giver/Taker, which ran from 2016 to 2018, also got a live-action series earlier this year. Even her manga Limit received the live-action treatment in 2013. Both Life and Life 2 have been licensed for English publication by Kodansha USA, while Vertical previously released all six volumes of Limit stateside.

The pattern suggests Suenobu's character-driven narratives—which often examine the tension between personal dreams and relationship dynamics—translate effectively to live-action format. With Ochitara Owari marking her latest adaptation, viewers can expect another intimate look at how modern life complications play out among women navigating family, friendship, and their own ambitions.
