The Like a Dragon/Yakuza franchise is heading to the stage. A new play titled Butai Ryu ga Gotoku: Kamurochō Hakkenden (Like a Dragon Stage: Kamurochō Hakkenden) will run in Tokyo from August 21-30, bringing the beloved video game characters to live performance.

The production includes an impressive ensemble cast featuring Yūya Uno as protagonist Kazuma Kiryū and Shuji Kikuchi as the chaotic Goro Majima. Other major characters are represented by Haruto Sakuraba (Taiga Saejima), Sho Katou (Ichiban Kasuga), and Masamichi Satonaka (Akira Nishikiyama), among others. Director Daisuke Nishida and writer Kazuhito Yomeyama are helming the project.

The cast selection reflects the franchise's commitment to fan engagement. Sega ran a character popularity poll from October to November, and the stage play features all 10 top characters from that vote. This approach ensures the story centers on who fans actually care about most.

The stage play is part of a larger 20th anniversary celebration for the franchise, which has expanded well beyond games in recent years. The live-action Like a Dragon: Yakuza series debuted on Amazon Prime Video in October 2024, followed by Ryū ga Gotoku Powered By Nihon Tōitsu, a crossover with the Nihon Tōitsu video series that launched on the platform in February 2026. That three-episode series is also available with English subtitles on Sega's YouTube channel.

With stage plays, live-action adaptations, and continued video game releases, the Like a Dragon franchise continues proving it has staying power across multiple mediums. The August stage play gives fans another way to experience Kamurochō and its residents—this time in person.
