TV Tokyo has revealed the complete cast for Strange -Itō Junji no Yoru mo Nemurenu Kimyō na Hanashi-, a live-action omnibus series bringing 13 of Junji Ito's most unsettling manga stories to the small screen.

The ensemble includes established Japanese actors like Nijirō Murakami, Yōko Maki, and Manato Sakamoto, each taking on roles across the series' individual episodes. Some actors appear multiple times—Kanata Hosoda returns for three episodes as Ryusuke Fukuda in "Lovesickness," the story that appears to anchor the adaptation.

The lineup reads like a horror lover's dream: episodes will cover fan favorites including "The Mansion of Phantom Pain," "The Bully," "A Father's Love," "Tomio: Red Turtleneck," and "The Rib Woman." The adaptation also includes "In Old Records," which notably appeared in the 2023 anime Junji Ito Maniac on Netflix but hasn't received an official English translation in manga form.

Directed by Atsuhiro Yamada, Yūta Shimotsu, and Ryōta Kondō, the series taps experienced horror screenwriters including Daisuke Hosaka (known for the Sadako franchise) and Tatsurō Inamoto, who worked on Trigun Stampede and Pluto. The opening theme comes courtesy of K-pop group IVE with their track "Jigsaw."

The series kicks off July 3 at 24:12 (technically July 4 at 12:12 a.m.) on TV Tokyo's "Drama 24" late-night programming block, with a BS TV Tokyo broadcast following on July 12. The title references the original name of the Asahi Shimbun's now-defunct Nemuki+ magazine, where many of Ito's stories first appeared.

This live-action project arrives as Ito's work continues gaining international attention. Following the Netflix anime Junji Ito Maniac last year, production companies Through the Lens Entertainment and Fangoria Studios are also developing films based on "The Mystery of the Haunted House" and "Bloodsucking Darkness."
