The live-action film adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's Look Back one-shot manga is set to hit Japanese theaters on September 11, 2026, according to a newly released trailer that also unveiled several additional cast members.

The expanded cast includes Masaki Suda as Maeda, a Weekly Shōnen Jump editor; Kankurō Kudō as Tamai, a grade school teacher; Kayo Noro as Akari, Fujino's mother; Ryō Ikeda as Nishi, Fujino's father; Miyu Sasaki as Megumi, Fujino's older sister; and Maho Yamada as Manabe, a middle school teacher.

Director Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Our Little Sister) is handling directing, editing, and screenplay duties for the film. Yūta Bandō, known for his work on BELLE and Kaiju No. 8, composed the score. The film premiered at the 79th Cannes International Film Festival in May.

GKIDS will distribute the film in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Ireland in 2026. This follows the anime adaptation's successful theatrical run—the animated film opened in Japan in June 2024, earning 227 million yen (approximately $1.4 million USD) in its opening three days across 135,000 ticket sales. When GKIDS brought it to North America in October 2024, it grossed $688,253 at the U.S. box office during its opening weekend.

Look Back began as a one-shot manga on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ in July 2021, where it accumulated over 2.5 million views on its first day. Viz Media published the manga in English print in September 2022. The story centers on Fujino, an overconfident artist, and Kyomoto, a reclusive girl, whose shared passion for manga brings them together in their small town. Their coming-of-age narrative explores growth, friendship, and moving forward.

Fujimoto, best known as the creator of Chainsaw Man, crafted Look Back as a deeply personal meditation on artistic passion and collaboration. The manga's critical reception and the anime film's commercial success demonstrate the story's broad appeal across formats and international audiences.
