Sunrise's MAO anime is picking up momentum with its second cours starting July 4. The studio released a new promotional video showcasing both the fresh opening and ending theme songs that will accompany the show's second half.

The new opening theme, "Bokura ga Uwagaki suru Sekai" (The World We Overwrite), comes from idol group 20th Century, while Reina Ueda takes over ending duties with "Tayutau" (Swaying). The first cours featured Kis-My-Ft2's "HEARTLOUD" as the opening and TRUE's "Juai" (Cursed Love) as the ending.

Based on Rumiko Takahashi's manga—best known for InuYasha—MAO follows Nanoka, who stumbles through a portal into the Taisho era and meets MAO, a gruff exorcist. After narrowly escaping a yokai, she returns to the present with mysterious new abilities. Desperate for answers, she travels back to the past and becomes entangled in MAO's investigation of a series of brutal murders. Things get complicated when she discovers MAO is cursed by a cat demon named Byoki, and his sword can only be wielded safely by him—yet she's forced to grab it when his life hangs in the balance.

The voice cast includes Yūki Kaji as MAO and Natsumi Kawaida as Nanoka, alongside veteran seiyuu like Hiro Shimono, Toshiyuki Toyonaga, and Yōko Hikasa. Behind the scenes, director Teruo Sato (Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon) leads a team of experienced animators and designers, including character designer Yoshihito Hishinuma, who previously worked on InuYasha and Yashahime.

The anime debuted in April and will continue on its summer schedule. English-speaking fans can follow the story through Viz Media's English manga translation, which describes the series as an "era-spanning supernatural adventure." With new themes and fresh creative energy, the second half promises to maintain the supernatural action and character drama that hooked viewers in the spring season.
