Visual novel fans can expect to revisit Meiji-era Tokyo next year. Dramatic Create announced that Meiji Tokyo Renka: Twilight Kiss will release on Nintendo Switch and PC via Steam in 2026, bringing the sequel to the beloved romance franchise to Western audiences for the first time.

The game will support English, Japanese, and Chinese subtitles while maintaining the original Japanese voice acting. The cast includes veteran voice actors like Daisuke Namikawa, Nobuhiko Okamoto, Jun Fukuyama, and Toshiyuki Morikawa, among others. Character design returns from Karu, with Yukiko Uozumi handling scenario duties.

Meiji Tokyo Renka: Twilight Kiss originally released in Japan in April 2015 as a sequel to Meiji Tokyo Renka Full Moon. The first game saw an English localization recently, arriving on Switch and Steam in October 2024 after an earlier PlayStation Vita release. That version included a bonus scenario written by Uozumi and a new opening theme by KENN.

The Meiji Tokyo Renka franchise has proven its staying power across multiple mediums. What began as a 2011 mobile game expanded to PlayStation Portable, then spawned anime film adaptations in 2015 and 2016. A television anime series premiered in 2019 on Crunchyroll with an English dub handled by Funimation, following Mei Ayazuki as she's transported to supernatural Meiji-era Tokyo. There she discovers an ability to see ghosts and develops romantic connections with seven historical figures.

The series also received live-action adaptations in 2019, demonstrating the franchise's broad appeal beyond gaming and anime circles.

With the localization of Twilight Kiss coming in 2026, Western visual novel enthusiasts will have the chance to experience the next chapter of the story. Those interested in the franchise's history can already play the first game in English on their preferred platform.
