The Muv-Luv franchise is expanding into tactics gaming. Developer aNCHOR Co., Ltd. revealed Muv-Luv: Tactics Kalidasa at Nightmare (also known as Muv-Luv: Tactics - The Nightmare of Kalidasa) alongside a new trailer this week, confirming a 2027 release on PC via Steam.

The game is positioned as a tactical simulation RPG built around strategic gameplay and character customization. According to the official description, players will enjoy turn-based battles, the ability to customize Tactical Surface Fighters, and a self-contained story that doesn't require prior Muv-Luv knowledge to enjoy.

aNCHOR first announced the project back in August 2024, so this trailer and release window represent the first major update since then. The studio has been active with the Muv-Luv IP over the past couple of years—they launched standalone editions of the four episodes of Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After on Nintendo Switch in Japan this April, following the release of the Muv-Luv 20th Odyssey Box last year.

The Muv-Luv franchise has a long history spanning visual novels, anime adaptations, and spin-off games. Muv-Luv Unlimited: The Day After, which originally appeared as serialized chapters in the Muv-Luv Alternative Chronicles side stories between 2011 and 2013, came to English audiences via Steam in 2021. More recently, the franchise ventured into the dating sim space with Muv-Luv Girls Garden, a collaboration between DMM Games and KMS Games that launched last September.

With Tactics Kalidasa at Nightmare, aNCHOR appears focused on delivering solid gameplay mechanics rather than relying solely on the franchise's existing fanbase. By emphasizing "pure gameplay excellence" and a standalone narrative, the studio is positioning this as an entry point for strategy RPG fans who may not be familiar with Muv-Luv's complex visual novel history.

More details about the game's mechanics, story, and characters are expected as we approach 2027.
