The upcoming anime adaptation of My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked (based on Otsuji's manga) has added two more voice actors to its roster. Hiroki Tōchi will voice Ueki, the Kōzō family gardener, while Eiko Yamada plays Yasu Nakamura, the maternal grandmother of protagonist Miya.

These additions round out a cast that already includes Hina Suzuki as Miya Nakamura and Kujira as Teru Kōnokura, among others. The series launches July 8 at 11:30 p.m. on TV Kanagawa, TV Saitama, and Chiba TV, with additional airings on MBS, Tokyo MX, and BS Asahi.

Streaming begins the same day on U-NEXT, Anime Hōdai, and Anime Times in Japan, with other platforms following a week later.

Keisuke Inoue (known for My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!) directs at NEWON studio. Nanami Hoshino handles scripts, while character designer Mutsumi Sasaki—credited on Laid-Back Camp and Chaos;HEAd—brings the cast to life alongside a full creative team covering everything from 3D animation to sound direction.

The story offers a comedic twist on the Cinderella tale. Miya, the illegitimate daughter of a prominent family, expects her new stepmother and stepsisters to treat her poorly after her mother's death. Instead, they turn out to be genuinely kind—throwing her expectations completely off. Seven Seas publishes the manga in English and describes it as an "award-winning" take that turns fairy tale tropes upside down.

Lia performs the opening theme "Amayadori no Shōkei" (Longing to Take Shelter From the Rain), while AVAM contributes the ending theme "Claire."

With a mix of veteran staff and a premise built on subverting expectations, the anime looks positioned to capture audiences who enjoy character-driven comedy with heart.
